Blog > A Frosty Leap into 2024: Our Family's Edmonds Polar Plunge Experience
The day was crisp and lively as my family and I made our way through downtown Edmonds, greeted by a sea of robes and festive outfits. The air was buzzing with excitement and, admittedly, a bit of nervous anticipation, especially from my kids and I, as we playfully debated backing out of the chilly challenge ahead. But there was no turning back for my husband, Andrew, who was all geared up and ready.
One of the most remarkable things about the Edmonds Polar Plunge is how it brings the community together. As we walked toward the beach, we bumped into friends from every corner of our lives - our pickleball buddies, fellow school parents, close personal friends, and even the familiar faces from Edmonds' vibrant nightlife. It was a melting pot of the community, all gathered for a single, shivery purpose.
The plunge itself was a rush of adrenaline, laughter, and screams (mostly mine!). But the warmth of the community spirit was palpable, even in the icy waters of Puget Sound. It's moments like these that truly define the essence of Edmonds - a place where the sense of belonging and togetherness is as rich as the scenic beauty that surrounds us.
The event has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings at Daphne’s Bar, an Edmonds staple owned by Brian Taylor. Daphne’s, with its timeless charm and top-notch cocktails served by the locally famous Desmond, is the perfect embodiment of Edmonds' unique character. It's no wonder this delightful spot is the starting point of such a spirited tradition.
Post-plunge, many of us find ourselves unwinding at Salish Sea Brewing, another local favorite. The laid-back atmosphere, coupled with Jeff Barnett's friendly charm, makes it the ideal spot for family time, complete with drinks and card games.
